What impact do you want to have with your art?
I want to share my culture for the future generations and to document that we were here.
With my work I hope to encourage others to find the light in a world clouded by darkness
Artist Louis Gonzalez of Luna Artworks grew up in an area just north of Downtown Houston, Texas. Northside, as it is known by those that grew up there, it is a community rich in Hispanic culture and pride. While his Mexican American heritage influences his artwork, it is a tribute to his mother and her death that serves as the driving force behind his artwork. On New Year’s Day of 1990, his mother, Mary Jo Gonzalez committed suicide. At the age of 19, his life had changed forever. Dealing with his mother’s death left Louis in a place of deep depression, which he still struggles with today. It was out of this loss and tragedy that Louis turned to art. He learned to celebrate the memories of life with his mother and the life they shared in each of his original pieces.
