Through my art, I seek to understand the complexities of the human experience and the ways in which our social and cultural environments shape our individual and collective identities. I am particularly interested in the ways in which our identities are formed and how they are expressed through our behavior, language, and relationships. My work is an attempt to capture the nuances of the human experience and to create a visual representation of the complexities of our lives.

Artists Biography

Zulma Vega is a Colombian visual multidisciplinary artist who made Houston her home in 2012. Her work spans painting, sculpture, and ceramic and is influenced by psychological and spiritual matters. Her style incorporates figurative language through an abstract expression using materials such as wood, clay, and acrylic on different surfaces. Her art is a series of creative and experimental processes that describe a personal awareness that is common to anyone. Therefore, her pieces, more than cathartic, invite us to ask ourselves about our ancestors, intimate inquiries, hidden feelings, thoughts, and the dynamism of the psyche.
