Join us on May 19th at 2 PM EST for a Data Hub Teach In: Demographic Dashboard Story. Centro’s Data Hub is developing a tableau dashboard showcasing Puerto Rican population data, including in-and-out migration from Puerto Rico, educational attainment and language proficiency, income, employment, housing, health and much more within the 13 most Puerto Rican-populated states and nationwide. This dashboard will allow users to download and compare data across states and years. Be sure to RSVP for this event using the form below! Bilingual services will be provided.
Jennifer Hinojosa is a Research Director at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at CUNY Hunter College. She holds a Master’s of Science in Geographical Sciences from University of Maryland, College Park and MA in Geography from SUNY Binghamton University. Her role as the data center coordinator is to manage projects related to Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland and to integrate GIS capabilities at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO). As a geographer by training, Ms. Hinojosa’s role in the GIS platform is to integrate Puerto Rico’s social, demographic, and economic data with GIS mapping capabilities to address current and future challenges related to post-Hurricane Maria. She interned at the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program in Washington D.C. Her research interests include GIS, socioeconomic disparities, migration, and demography.
Damayra Figueroa-Lazu is a Research Assistant at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at CUNY Hunter College. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts in Sociology from St. John’s University. Her role as a research assistant is to prepare, collect, and analyze data related to Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans in the U.S. Her experience includes data entry, statistical analysis in Microsoft Excel, Stata, and Tableau, along with creating interactive data visualizations using Tableau and Datawrapper. Her research interests include socioeconomic disparities, coloniality, race and ethnicity, social stratification, and social movements.
