Bienvenidos to Movidas 2022, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Latino Studies!
Join us to commemorate the establishment of CMAS, part of the larger Latino Studies unit that also includes the Department of Mexican American and Latino Studies (MALS) and the Latino Research Institute (LRI) at The University of Texas at Austin. The Movidas Conference continues the tradition of activist scholarship and community ties, of pushing boundaries for greater social justice.
We will commemorate some of the events of 1970, including discussion of a school walk-out in Uvalde, Texas, featuring UT’s own Monica Muñoz Martinez and some of the men and women who participated in the walkout. We look forward to learning more about events of those early years, as well as milestones that occurred and issues that have emerged since then. Please consider submitting an abstract for either a single presentation or for a panel.
