¡SIEMPRE PRESENTES!: Shedding Light on Latina History
March 18, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
When: March 18, 2021 7pm EST |
Where: |
From Rita Moreno on the set of West Side Story to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the Congress floor, Latinas have been breaking ground in ever discipline and field for generations. They’ve been front and center in the fight for civil rights, trailblazers in the arts and sciences, and architects of sweeping change in government. How has history reflected these accomplishments? Have they helped the public get beyond restricting and dismissive stereotypes about Latinas?
Join our panel of experts: Esperanza Sanchez, Associate Curator at La Plaza de Cultura y Artes; Ruth Glasser, Associate Professor in Residence at UConn; and CT Deputy Majority Leader Representative Hilda Santiago of Meriden’s 84th District as they shed light on this proud history of strength and resilience.
Co-sponsored by the Connecticut Democracy Center (Old State House, Hartford) and UConn El Instituto.
