Julie E. Lucero, University of Nevada Reno, Assistant Professor School, Community Health Sciences, and Director, Latino Research Center, College of Liberal Arts. Using the community based participatory approach to research, my scholarship focuses on the identification of modifiable social determinants of health as a means to achieve health equity through programming and policy.  I have had the privilege of working with American Indian and Latinx populations to research issues broadly related to mental health and substance use, with a significant concentration on the health of youth and young adults. A current interdisciplinary mixed methods investigation explores the relationship between housing instability caused by race-based gentrification and mental health wellbeing among Latinx families. I am also working on two projects that contribute to workforce development though 1) determining the factors related to successful internship programs, and 2) increasing the number of bilingual English-Spanish students in STEM-healthcare careers.
